Leaping Dancers and Stock Photo Collaborations

Dancers, Photostoreand Collaboration Recently a chum and fellow stock photographer, Tanya continuingine, asked me if i would like to collaborate on a fewinteract. Tanya had completed a chain of picturesof dancers and thought that maybe, with my Photostoreexperience, i couldcreate a fewsmartstock images by compositing the dancers into new backgrounds. She sent me a fewjpegs that were indeed lovelycool photos. Egos, Gang Shoots, and Fond Memories I do occasionally collaborate with other photographers in diverseways. i've participated in a number of “gang” shoots with two to as many as a dozen other photographers. In a couple of cases, as on this suggestion by Tanya, i've used the work of alterlocalphotographers in composite images. i've to confess that this kind of labor isn't necessarily straightforwardfor me to leap into…primarily for ego reasons. i really like to be totally liable for the pictures I create, from the photography to the digital work. this is almethodsa challenge for me to place my ego aside and work with other photographers to create “joint” images. Gang shoots are easier for me because each photographer still finally ends up with separate credit for their work and there's a shared enthusiasm and attemptthat incorporates the territory. i've a fewtruly fond memories of shared shoots, particularly ones that i've done in places like Bangkok, Mexico, India and Argentina. Logistics and Decisions In cases where i'm simplymanipulating and compositing with the photography of alternatives, I don’t get the thrill of the percentaged shoots, and that i don’t get to say the resultsas my very own. Too, with collaboratiat there's almethodsthe want to figure outthe logistics of collection and distributing the royalties, and coping with the difficulties of creating diverseoptions(this type ofs who will distribute the pictures and that in what model) involving multiple person. Here, with Tanya’s lovelyimages of dancers, it will be foolish for me to let those potential problems get within the best way of manufacturing a fewlovelyand fiscally rewarding work. Raw Files, Motion Blur, and White Backgrounds I chose some of the dancer picturesand had Tanya sfinishme the raw files via my ftp site (when technology works don’t you identical to it!). the hasslewith these images is thon the dancers were photographed in motion against a white background. Their clothing and hair had motion blur making it most unlikelyto strip the pictures entidependout. the one method to succeed, no less than so far as i do know (vitaldisclaimer!), is to include the dancers right into a background that was no less than very with reference to white…but whon the heck maythis type of background be? When shooting images it may be advantageous to think ahead about possible compositing options, and where possible, shoot no less than a fewimages with backgrounds that make the post shoot work less arduous! A Metaphor free of chargedom…and Love i began with the dancer in a red shift. She may well be stripped out, with the exception of her hair, with an effortless clipping trailconverted to a spread. My first thought was that putting her in a sky maycreate a metaphor free of chargedom, vitality and effort. As i wondered the issues together with her hair it popped into my mind that if I had her head against a cloud that had an identical white tone to the background she was photographed on, i couldjustfade her hair into the cloud with a layer mask and that it maywork perfectly. As i glanceed through my cloud files I stumbled on this symbolof a heart-shaped cloud and that i knew I had the right mix. A Royalty Free symboland Valentine’s Day i exploitd the pen tool to create a clipping path, leaving a large swath aaround her hair, but a decent trailaaround her limbs and get dressed. A one-pixel feather was utilized in converting the trail to a spread. I copied and dadsted her into the sky symboland used “Free Transform” to place and size her. As i discussed above, I created a layer mask and with a cushybrush, and "painted" with black to vanish her hair into the cloud image. This ultimatesymbolrepresents not just energy, vitality, and freedom, but in addition love, joy and…Valentine’s Day! This symbolwill sell so much, and for a large number of uses. it kind of feels perfect as a Royalty Free symboland that is headed for the BlfinishImages RF collection. Spirituality and Alien Abductions within the next image, a girldancer in a green dress, was in a pose that suggested to me that she was being lifted by a fewinvisible force…as though, perhaps, by a few“tractor beam” from a flying saucer. This stock photo may well be used for ideas starting from alien abduction and science fictidirectly to non secularity and philosophical uses. i couldeven see it as a picture indicating being “over excited”, anythingthat would actually be used to promoteor promote numerous diffehireproduct or service. in fact, I almethodsreserve the most efficientto be wrong! Art Directors, Designers and Rights Managed Collections i discovered a picture I had shot of latest York and used “Hue and Saturation” in an adjustment layer, to create a shaft of sunshine for the beam. I again used the pen tool to create a clipping trailacross the model, but leaving a large area aaround her hair. After copying and dadsting the dancer into the beam area I re-adjusted the sunshineness of the “beam”, with that varyment layer, until her hair almaximumblled toto the background. Then with a layer mask and a cushybrush i stopped “fading” the hair into the background. this can be a stock symbolthat it will be so much harder for Art Directors and architects to make use of… and has a topproduction pricelook…so I submitted it to Getty who's strikingit into their “Stone” collection…a high-finishRights Managed collection. Giving Up Ego and reaping benefits By collaborating, Tanya and i have each needed to give up slightly little bit of our investment in ego, but we will be able to both (hopefully) reap greater rewards from the outcomeing stock picturesthan we othersensiblewould have. it's not that i am really partial to the phrase “Win-win”, but this can be nearly as smarta case of s any!
